Bust of Frederick William of Prussia; Northern Europe, c. 1880. Patinated bronze on marble base "rosso levanto". Measurements: 17 x 5,5 x 5,5 cm. Bust of Frederick William of Prussia, known as the Soldier King. King in Prussia and Elector of Brandenburg from 1713 until his death in 1740, as well as Prince of Neuchâtel. His political awakening came during the plague outbreak of the Great Northern War in Prussia, which led him to challenge the corruption and inefficiency of the government. He initiated reforms, especially in the military, significantly growing the Prussian army. A believer in absolute monarchy, he focused on state development and financial reorganization, imposing taxes and strict regulations on civil servants.
