Framed in a gold-colored stucco frame with vegetal and ornamental decoration. - The wood panel with a few age-related shrinkage cracks. Partially with faint traces of rubbing due to framing. Varnish somewhat yellowed. Good overall. Copy after the painting of the same name by the Baroque painter Carlo Cignani (1628 - 1719). - Depicted is the biblical scene from the Book of Genesis, the attempt to seduce Joseph by Potiphar's wife. Joseph, who was deported to Egypt as a slave, worked his way to an honorable position with Potiphar. Potiphar's wife tried to seduce the handsome Joseph, but he virtuously rebuffed her attempts, as is very clearly illustrated in our painting by the physical and especially hand gestures. Offended by the rejection, the woman then accused Joseph of approaching her indecently. As a consequence, Joseph was innocently thrown into prison. Oil on wood panel. Framed in a gold-colored stucco frame with vegetal and ornamental decoration. - The wooden panel with few creases due to age. Partially with faint traces of rubbing due to the frame. Varnish slightly yellowed. At all good.
