Álvaro Joaquim de Melo Siza Vieira é natural de Matosinhos, onde nasceu a 25 de Junho de 1933, filho de Júlio Siza Vieira e de Cacilda Ermelinda Camacho Carneiro. Estudou Arquitectura na Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto entre 1949 e 1955. Construiu a sua primeira obra em 1954.A respeitável trajetória do arquiteto Álvaro Siza é caracterizada por obras de diferentes estilos: projetos de residências as famosas casas de Álvaro Siza, instituições públicas, complexos de casas populares, projetos privados e urbanísticos são alguns dos trabalhos que fazem parte do portfólio do artista. Após se tornar reconhecido mundialmente por seus grandes projetos, no ano de 1992 Álvaro Siza foi celebrado com o prêmio Pritzker, considerado o "Nobel da arquitetura".
