Religious costumes. [Costumi della corte di Roma [Rome], [2nd half of 19th c.]. Accordion-fold in-12 album (10.9 x 7.7 cm), publisher's hardback folder and slipcase covered with red chagrined paper. Charming album of costumes from the Court of Rome, featuring 30 beautiful hand-colored engravings with Italian captions: vestments of the Pope, cardinals, Latin, Greek, Armenian and Syrian bishops, prelates, secret chamberlains, Swiss guards, etc. Handwritten in ink "Rome, 1870". On upper flyleaf: armorial bookplate of Baron de Cougny-Préfeln (1862-1942), cavalry officer residing at Château de Remeneuil, near Châtellerault, and another bookplate in morocco. Slight wear to dust jacket and slipcase, otherwise a very good copy.

Set in a 40 x 40 cm cross-shaped red cardboard stand. First edition limited to 100 copies, signed by Slocombe on the colophon. Introductory text by Gilbert Woodbrooke (Romain Slocombe). 30 color photographs laminated. One of 25 numbered first editions with an original signed color photographic print in the base. An astonishing book-object from Le Havre, France, by Olivier Prieur and Hélène Pindel. This is an unusual first edition.
