Brass Hanukkah Menorah, ORT Brass Hanukkah Menorah by ORT, Israel, ca. 1950's-1960's. Featuring nine figures representing the Maccabees. Each figure holding a shield and javelin with the top of each javelin serving as a candleholder. Height: 8.5 cm. Width: 35 cm. Missing one candleholder and one shield. Unique Hanukkah lamps like this one were produced in limited quantities by the teachers and students of the network of polytechnical schools known as ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation through Training) in the 1950's and 1960's. They were presented as gifts to donors, heads of state, and mayors. The inspiration for the images of the Maccabees was derived from the work of the artist Hans Teppich.
