Edmond Marie Petitjean (1844-1925) Baigneuse assise au bord de l'eau Oil on canvas signed lower left 46 x 33 cm Condition report: Framed, accidents Edmond Marie Petitjean was a French painter and illustrator renowned for his landscapes and seascapes. He began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1873. He quickly made a name for himself with his depictions of Lorraine, his native region. He then broadened his repertoire by painting the ports of the Atlantic, with lively, dynamic compositions. In 1889, Petitjean took part in the Paris Universal Exhibition, painting pavilions and winning a silver medal for his outstanding work. Three years later, he was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. In 1900, he contributed to the decoration of the golden room of the Le Train bleu restaurant at the Gare de Lyon in Paris. That same year, he won a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition. "In my painting I have passionately sought perfection, delicacy, finesse of feeling and tone." (MLD)
