Meissen pair of vases as lamp bases bird painting underglaze blue pommel marks 1860-1924, cancelled twice, mark number 7, calabash shape with round base, surrounding decoration of two pairs of birds on stem and terrace respectively. each with two pairs of birds on a trunk and a terrace and single birds on a trunk in fine polychrome overglaze painting, the neck with blue partial ground with recessed star motifs and rich gold decoration and gold rim, without base plate and mount, partially burnt and minimally rubbed, h 30.5 cm each.

Illustrated with two allegorical frontispiece portraits (Le Tasse and Gravelot), two title vignettes, 20 out-of-text figures, 28 culs-de-lampe (some engraved full-page) and 20 vignettes at the head of the portraits of the poem's main characters, all by Gravelot. New translation by Charles François LE BRUN, Duc de Plaisance (1739-1824). Edition reported in Barbier & Desessarts, Bibliothèque d'un homme de goût (I, p. 225): "[...] deserves a distinguished place among works of this kind, one notices as much precision as elegance [...]". Armorial bookplate of Marc Hypolite de Camelin. Ex-libris JM (Cohen 976, which only lists 23 culs-de-lampe).
