Jean-Robert ANGO (1710 - Rome 1773) Allegorical subject after Solimena Black stone on back ground. Inscription probably in Saint-Non's hand in pen and black ink, lower right, Solimena, sacristy of St. Paul in Naples. The retouching of the proof could be by Saint-Non. Doubled drawing, folds, small holes and stains. 19.6 x 30.5 cm Our drawing corresponds to the decoration of the sacristy of San Paolo in Naples, decorated with the Solimeno fresco. There are several other copies of the Solimène frescoes published in the Voyage Pittoresque by the Abbé de Saint-Non, including a copy by Ango of Fragonard's lost original drawing. Ango accompanied Fragonard to Naples on the December 1759 voyage (see P. Rosenberg and B. Bréjon de Lavergnier).
