New edition of the French translation of this important chess treatise; translated from Italian by Ragueneau, it is dedicated to the Marquis de Louvois. Gioachino Greco, known as the Calabrian, is considered one of the finest chess players of the 17th century. The original edition of this treatise appeared in Italian in 1619. Bookplate F. Arnoult. Handwritten bookplate of the Hôpital de la Charité de Grainville. Ex-libris JM. A fine example.
