STAR LOT - NAO DE MANILA, 16TH CENTURY, Fine and Extraordinary Filipino Lacquer, Coral and Wood portable Triptych for Export to the New Spanish colonial Market, Mexico Discovered recently on a distinguished private Spanish collection, this magnificent triptych from the Nao de Manila presents an outstanding state of preservation given its dating, with a golden Philippine lacquer cover and interior in tropical wood and coral carved with a fineness that escapes words, primitive colonial work of Chinese artisans from Macao in the colonial Philippines for New Spain. There are two examples of smaller works preserved in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the British Museum in London, among others.
