Robert Morris Signed Stock Certificate for the North American Land Company Important financier (1734-1806) who signed the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and Constitution. Partly-printed DS, signed “Rob't Morris,” one page, 12.75 x 9.75, October 15, 1795. Stock certificate issued to "James Rees" for three shares in the entire property of the North American Land Company. Signed boldly at the conclusion by Robert Morris as president, and countersigned by the company's secretary, James Marshall, the brother of Chief Justice and Secretary of State John Marshall. In fine condition. The office of the North American Land Company was located at 230 Market Street, Philadelphia. Morris was eventually bankrupted by land speculations and served a few years in the Prune Street prison until released by the passage of the national bankruptcy law in 1802.

John C. Calhoun Signed Mailing Envelope Prominent American politician (1782-1850) who served as vice president under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. He later wielded great power and influence in the Senate as a champion of Southern causes, including slavery. Mailing envelope, 6.25 x 3.25, December 30, 1823, addressed in another hand to "Lieut. N. Baden, Care of Col. J. Jameson, Baltimore, Md.,” indicated as being sent from the “Ordinance Office, War Department,” and signed below with a crisp franking signature, “J. C. Calhoun.” The envelope is stamped below, “Free.” In fine condition, with some light creasing and soiling.
