OPERA - CARBONE Maria (1908 - 2002) - Photographic portrait with autograph dedication signed Photographic portrait with autograph signature of the Italian soprano. She studied singing with P.A. Roche. In 1929 she made her debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in Boito's “Mefistofele”, soon afterwards as Micaela in “Carmen” and as Mimì in “La bohème”. She was a great Mascagni soprano, of whom she interpreted practically all the main soprano roles (in Guglielmo Ratcliff, Lodoletta, Pinotta, Le maschere, Parisina, Isabeau, Il Piccolo Marat, the last two in 1932-40). She also took part in some first performances, including Malipiero 's “Antonio and Cleopatr”a (at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 1938), Busoni 's “Turandot” in 1940, Malipiero's “Ecuba” (Rome Opera in 1941), Peragallo's “Lo stendardo di San Giorgio” (Genoa 1941). Manfred A. Schmid, Zwei Frauen im Gespräch Mixed media monogrammed AS lower right, dated (19)53, framed under glass in passepartout, folded dimensions 56 x 40 cm. Artist information: German painter and restorer (1911 Freiburg im Breisgau - 2009 ibid.) completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter, 1929 studied painting at the Badische Landeskunstschule in Karlsruhe under Georg Scholz, also attended the etching class under Walter Conz, 1932/33 master student with his own studio under Hermann Goebel, however he cancelled his master student status for political reasons, then at the Munich Art Academy under Julius Hess, acquired his master's certificate in 1940, immediately before his military service, he processed what he had experienced during the war in many sketches and then worked as a freelancer in Freiburg-Zähringen, 1960/69 chairman of the South Baden Association of Fine Arts, alternating with sculptor Walter Schelenz, worked until 2001.
