Provenance: From the collection of Dr. Ferdinand and Dr. Gudrun Thaler-Szulyovsky, acquired from the above, and thence by descent in the same family. The subject references, quite humorously, a parody of the seduction of feminine wiles, the clam representing the female here. Asymmetrical himotoshi and signature GYOKUMIN underneath. HEIGHT 2.8 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear and a tiny notch to the blindman’s chin. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. Ferdinand and Dr. Gudrun Thaler-Szulyovsky, acquired from the above, and thence by descent in the same family. Usually Kanzan is depicted together with his companion Shide, who was an assistant at the temple on Cold Mountain, with Kanzan reading to Shide from a scroll. Black-stained wood, generous himotoshi on the reverse. The underside with the signature. HEIGHT 6.4 cm Condition: Good condition with some wear and natural imperfections to the material. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. Ferdinand and Dr. Gudrun Thaler-Szulyovsky, acquired from the above, and thence by descent in the same family.
