Compton, "Schneekoppe vom Kammweg" View of the highest mountain of the Giant Mountains with the Schneekoppenbaude, elaborate watercolour etching, 1st half of the 20th century, signed in pencil below the depiction on the right "E. H. Compton " and "p." (posthumous?) and titled "Schneekoppe von Kammweg (Riesengebirge)" on the left, signed "E. Harrison Compton" in the image lower left, framed behind glass, dimensions approx. 21 x 28.5 cm. Artist information: German-EnglishEnglish landscape and architectural painter and illustrator (1881 Feldafing am Starnberger See - 1960 Feldafing), pupil of his father Edward Theodore Compton and the London School of Arts and Crafts, subsequently returned to Bavaria, travelled through Tyrol, Upper Italy, Germany and England, member of the Munich artists' cooperative, exhibited at the Glaspalast in Munich, worked for a time in Potsdam and Würzburg, active in Munich and Feldafing am Starnberger See, source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Bruckmann "Münchner Maler des 19./20th century", Dressler and Wikipedia.

Winston Churchill Signed Photograph by Vivienne of London Iconic vintage matte-finish 4 x 5 portrait of Winston Churchill by Vivienne of London, affixed to its original 6.5 x 9 mount, which is signed in fountain pen, "Winston S. Churchill, 1955." Affixed inside its original studio presentation folder, the reverse of which bears a “Vivienne, 20th Century Studios Limited” copyright stamp. In fine condition, with a hint of faint silvering to the image, and toning from prior display to the mount. Vivienne (1889-1982) was a leading society portrait photographer who began as an assistant to her husband Ernest and their son, Antony. In 1949, Antony, by then making a career photographing actors in Hollywood, married Churchill’s daughter Sarah, an actress. Both families became friends and Vivienne made many portraits of Churchill. This is one of her most enduring images.
