A FINE SHIBUICHI KOZUKA DEPICTING BOATS BENEATH A WILLOW TREE A FINE SHIBUICHI KOZUKA DEPICTING BOATS BENEATH A WILLOW TREE Unsigned Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) The migakiji (polished ground) shibuichi finely worked in gold and shakudo hirazogan and katakiribori, depicting three boats along a riverbank beneath a large willow tree, whose branches droop towards the water. The reverse finely engraved in katakiribori and kebori with three flocks of geese flying in the rain. LENGTH 9.5 cm WEIGHT 22.5 g Condition: Very good condition with only minor wear.

Large pot of brushes. China, Qing dynasty, Guangxu period (1875-1908). Hand-painted ceramic. Seal on the base. Measurements: 28 x 12 x 12 cm. This large brush pot is characterized by its decoration based on cranes, bats and signs of happiness. Emperor Guangxu also known by his temple name Emperor Dezong of Qing, personal name Zaitian, was the tenth emperor of the Qing dynasty, and the ninth Qing emperor to rule China proper. His reign, which lasted from 1875 to 1908, was largely dominated by his aunt, Empress Dowager Cixi. Guangxu initiated the radical Hundred Days Reform, but it was abruptly interrupted when the empress dowager staged a coup d'état in 1898. After the death of Emperor Tongzhi in 1875, Empress Dowager Cixi installed her four-year-old nephew as Emperor Guangxu, contravening Qing dynastic custom.

A FAMILLE ROSE ‘LOTUS POND’ PORCELAIN BOWL, TONGZHI MARK AND PERIOD A FAMILLE ROSE ‘LOTUS POND’ PORCELAIN BOWL, TONGZHI MARK AND PERIOD China, Tongzhi period (1861-1875). Delicately potted, the deep sides rising from a short straight foot to a gently everted rim. The exterior finely painted in polychrome enamels and iron red with a continuous scene of lotus, bamboo, and wildflowers growing from a pond, with birds and insects such as a pair of Magpies, butterflies, and various beetles, as well as fish swimming in the water. The rim neatly lined in gilt. The recessed base with an underglaze blue six-character Tongzhi Reign mark and of the period. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, some firing flaws, and wear to gilt and enamels. Provenance: Slovakian private collection. Weight: 249 g Dimensions: Diameter 15.5 cm
