Six porcelain plates, decorated with polychrome and monochrome female portraits on the basin, including Mme d'Entraygues, Violette de Parisis, Mme Vénus after Arsène Houssaye and others, with sky blue, navy or pink wings underlined by fillets and gold frieze. Signed on the back "E. Girod 1869", some titled. D. 22.5 cm (very slight pitting).

Spine darkened, brown spots. Numerous engraved illustrations in the text by Blanchard, Crépon, Darjou, Férat, Fichot, Gaildrau, Gilbert, Godefroy-Durand, Janet-Lange, Gustave Janet, M. Lalanne, Lançon, Lix, A. Marie, Ed. Morin, Pauquet, Philippoteaux, Vierge, etc. With an E.A.S. from the author on page 1 to Ulysse Bessac (actor and playwright, director of the Château-d'Eau theater).

Edition of 176 copies signed by the artist. This is one of 102 on Rives vellum, to which has been added a black proof of the plate with remarks.
