Inscriptions in pencil on the back on the stretcher "Arthur Midy médaille d'or de Rouen/ assassiné sous l'occupation" and "Maryvonne", with newspaper clipping pasted on the canvas "Le peintre Arthur Midy/ sa femme et un voisin/ assassinés au Faouët" (soiling, some cracking, canvas slightly distended).
