Description

HOUEL Marc'harit (1907-2002) - HB QUIMPER "Le petit Grégoire" Round polychrome-glazed earthenware dish with central medallion decoration of a young Breton man brandishing a rifle. The border is edged with a cobalt blue fillet, titled. HB/ Quimper/ #" mark and "MHL" monogram in blue in a circle below the base. Work of the Second Quarter of the 20th Century (slight enameling defects). Diameter: 29.8 cm Marc'harit Houël began collaborating with Manufacture HB in 1929, for whom she produced this series of dishes inspired by the songs of Théodore Botrel, two of which can be seen at the Musée Départemental Breton in Quimper. Close to the Seiz Breur movement, she treated her subjects with a modernism typical of certain members of this group of artists.
