Description

QUILLIVIC René (1879-1969) "Young girl with her finger in her mouth". Large white glazed earthenware subject, depicting a little girl in a bigoudène headdress. Engraved signature on the back of the terrace, with "Pont-l'Abbé/ 1908" (?) on the front. Signed under the base with marks "HB Henriot/ Quimper/ France" and "F 747". Height Height : 51 cm On his arrival at the Ecole National des Beaux-Arts in 1903, Quillivic was taught by Antonin Mercier, who introduced him to academic sculpture. But it was his cultural roots that really took over. Close relatives, cousins and friends inspired his first models, produced in collaboration with the Grande Maison earthenware factory. Our subject, also produced in white and stoneware, bears witness to the man-of-the-people sensibility present throughout the artist's work. Bibliography: Philippe Théallet & Bernard-Jules Verlingue, "Encyclopédie des Céramiques de Quimper", Editions de la Reinette, Tome V, page 273 for a variant of our model.
