Royal Gendarmerie officer's saber, model 1817. Basane-covered handle with filigree. Bronze mounting. Hilt with four hollowed-out branches stamped with Duc. Quillon curved towards the tip. Curved, rounded-back blade by "Coulaux Frères Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal", with counter-edge, gutter and hollow sides, with cartouche engraved "Gendarmerie Royale" on both sides. With iron scabbard with two punched brass bracelets. A.B.E. (slight oxidation on blade and scabbard).

The saber blade is steel, straight, single-edged (the combat end is double-edged, with a stiffening rib), bipartite (one fuller is wide, the second, running along the very edge of the butt, is narrow). The heel area is not highlighted. The hilt of the saber consists of a handle and a guard; its metal parts are made of brass. The scabbard of the saber is all-metal steel.
