"Wurtz, George Christophe, Strasbourg Temple Neuf, 14.12.1752 - Versailles, 09.09.1823 [...]. Pupil at the Protestant Gymnasium from 1759, matriculated at the Faculty of Philosophy in 1767, candidate in medicine in 1777 in his native town. His observations and research enabled him to compose and publish an original map of medicines in the form of a world map, under the title Conamen mappae generalis medicamentorum simplicium secundum affinitates virium naturalium, nova methodo geographica dispositorum, cum tabula aenea, in 1778. This classification of medical substances, by genus, species and degree, in various regions, according to whether they participate more or less from earth, water, air or fire, was accepted by several professors of Leipzig and Strasbourg and earned him the congratulations of the famous Buffon. Relief of St. Thomas Aquinas - Circa 1720 - Half-length figure, dressed in a golden habit, holding a book in one hand and raising the other; in an oval frame surrounded by large leaves and tendrils. Wood, carved and gilded. 125 x 65 cm. - Minor traces of age, the paint largely gone over.

Small in-12 of [446] pp. [3] bl. ff., [146] pp. ("Commentarii In Tractatu de Trinitate doctoris angelici A Quaestione Vigesima Septima ad. 43.m"), [3] bl. ff. red morocco, ornate ribbed spine, double gilt fillet and fine lace framing the boards with beautiful central gilt fleuron with fan decoration, gilt tr. (period binding). Binding restored, boards probably restored. A fine copy.

Paris, [Nicolas Des Prez], Jean de La Porte, [1520]. Large gothic in-8 of [12]-cxlvii ff. Fawn calf, spine ribbed. Very damaged post-binding (boards detached, headpieces torn off, corners dulled, etc.). Commentary on the Evangelist John written entirely in Gothic script, with numerous initials. Title in a historiated engraved frame, with the initials of Nicolas Des Prez. Follows the Venice edition (Simon de Luere, July 1508). Heavy light wetness on first few pages. Angular loss to title leaf reaching engraving. Rust stains in ext. and int. margin (marked on ff. xlii to xlvii). Upper margin a little short, sometimes slightly reaching the running title. Mottling on endpapers. Handwritten ex-libris of a Capuchin father from 1654 on the title. Second old bookplate crossed out on title. (Renouard, ICP, II, 2485.)
