JOSEP ROCA SASTRE (Terrassa, 1928 - Barcelona, 1997). "Façade". Oil on táblex. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurements: 84 x 34 cm; 98,5 x 48 cm (frame). Formed in Barcelona, from the sixties Roca initiates a personal, independent style, and creates his own language. His proposal focused on recovering the look of the close and the everyday, the known. He exhibited for forty years in the Sala Parés in Barcelona, and also showed his work in other Spanish cities, as well as in the United States. In 1966 he was awarded the Sant Jordi prize by the Diputació de Barcelona, and two years later the medal of honor at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. In 1980 he became a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, and in 1993 he was awarded the Quadern Prize of the Fundació Amics de les Arts i de les Lletres de Sabadell. Roca Sastre developed a figurative style of intimate themes, applying a personal and subjective look to his interior scenes as well as to his urban and natural landscapes. Since his death, retrospectives of Josep Roca's work have been held at La Pedrera and the Muncunill (Terrassa), Oriol (Barcelona) and Juan Oliver Maneu (Palma de Mallorca) galleries. His work is preserved in the National Museum of Art of Catalonia.

JOSÉ SERRA Y PORSON (Rome, 1828 - Barcelona, 1910). Untitled. Set of six oil paintings on cardboard framed in two frames. One of the drawings is signed and dated 1852. The frames are damaged. Measurements: 28 x 22 cm (each); 35 x 76 cm (frames). Romantic Spanish painter, Serra y Porson is currently considered as the introducer of the "tableautin" genre in Spain, which he had learned from his master Ernest Meissonier. He was a professor from 1852 at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, in Barcelona, where he had as disciples Modest Urgell, Josep and Francesc Masriera, Simón Gómez, Manuel Amell and Vicente de Genovart, among others. He began his training in Rome, and then entered the San Fernando Academy in Madrid. In 1855 he moved to Paris to further his studies, and there he was a student of Meissonier. He assiduously submitted his works to artistic competitions and exhibitions, and was awarded the third medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid in 1864. He cultivated the painting of history and the one of realistic subject, in addition to the painting of flowers, with an anecdotal language of great detail. José Serra y Porson is currently represented in the Prado Museum, the MACBA in Barcelona and the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi.

FRANCESC SERRA CASTELLET (Barcelona, 1912 - Tossa, Girona, 1976). "Female nude". Oil on tablex. Presents sketch on the back. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 60 x 83 cm; 74 x 97 cm (frame). Painter and draftsman, Francesc Serra spent his youth in Granollers, Barcelona. Although he passed fleetingly through the School of La Lonja in Barcelona, he is basically a self-taught author. He had his first exhibition in 1932, at the Sala Parés in Barcelona, and participated in the Salones de Primavera between 1934 and 1936. In 1936 and 1937 he was a special guest of the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh, United States. He continued to hold individual exhibitions in Barcelona, mainly at the Sala Gaspar. A great admirer of Degas, he was especially influenced by his favorite theme, the feminine. Sporadically he also tackled other themes, such as the urban landscape, of which the series of Paris, presented in 1951, is worth mentioning. Likewise, with his portraits of the lead mine he approached the sensitive realism of Ingres. He won several awards, including the Sant Jordi of Barcelona (1953) and the first medals at the National Exhibitions of Madrid (1957) and Barcelona (1960). He collected several unpublished drawings under the title "Dibujos de Serra" (1973), with a prologue by Santos Torroella. Determined defender of realism in art and of traditional figuration against the avant-garde, he published the essay "La aventura del arte contemporáneo" (1953), with a prologue by Rafael Benet. He is represented in the Museums of Modern Art of Madrid and Barcelona and in the Museums of Fine Arts of l'Empordà and Sabadell.

MONTSERRAT GUDIOL COROMINA (Barcelona, 1933 - 2015). "Young man on blue background". Oil on panel. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurements: 81 x 61 cm; 101 x 81 cm (frame). Montserrat Gudiol began in the art world in the family studio of medieval painting restoration, and since 1950 she has been dedicated to painting on panel and on paper. That same year she had her first individual exhibition at the Casino of Ripoll (Girona). In 1953 he took part in the collective exhibition "Current Portrait", at the Artistic Circle of Barcelona, and the following year he made his debut abroad with a solo exhibition of drawings held at the Museum of Miami (United States). That same year she takes part in the collective exhibition "Pintura femenina" (C.I.C.F. of Barcelona), she obtains the First Prize of the Diputación de Barcelona and the Second Prize San Jorge of the same entity. In 1960 she participates in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts held in Barcelona, where she wins a third medal, and also takes part in the International Drawing Exhibition of the Ynglada Guillot Foundation (Barcelona), being awarded the First Prize. In 1962 she held an important individual exhibition at the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona (a gallery where she would repeat her presence from then on), and that same year she took part in a collective exhibition held at the Casón del Buen Retiro, in Madrid. Since then he has continued to hold individual exhibitions and to participate in group shows, both in Spain and in Germany, South Africa, the Czech Republic, China, France, Japan, the United States, Russia and Canada. Among his personal exhibitions are those held at the Pieter Wenning Gallery in Johannesburg (1967), Tamenaga Gallery in Tokyo (1974), Au Molin de Vauboyen in Paris (1978), the Exhibition Hall of the Union of Painters of the USSR in Moscow (1979), the Dreiseitel Gallery in Cologne (1981) and the Walton-Gilbert Gallery in San Francisco (1984). In 1980 she made an important monumental work for the Abbey of Montserrat, a representation of St. Benedict. In 1981 she was the first woman to join the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, and in 1998 the Generalitat de Catalunya awarded her the Cross of Sant Jordi. She is currently represented at the MACBA, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, the Museums of Modern Art in Johannesburg, San Diego, Miami and Flint (USA), the Joseph Cantor Foundation in Indianapolis (USA), the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne (Switzerland), the Monastery of Montserrat and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi.
