SALAMPASU, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Hard wood, dark patina, vegetable fibers. Ancient "Kasangu" dance mask belonging to the "Mugongo" warrior brotherhood, which was responsible for protecting the community. It represents a human face marked by a prominent forehead, mouth open to pointed teeth, hairstyle represented by rattan balls and a goatee of braided fibers. 1st half of the 20th century. Height: 30 cm.
