Canopy bed in hammered and gilded wrought iron Spain, 16th CENTURY Hammered and gilded wrought-iron Height: 270 cm; Length:152 cm; Depth:240 cm (Bed base: H. 206 cm; W. 148 cm) Provenance: Galerie Etienne Lévy; Paris, January 28, 1975 Hammered and gilded wrought-iron four-poster bed with openwork decoration of ringed colonnettes, foliate bouquets and flowers, the base in inverted double U-shape. This type of bed was originally designed for travelers, easy to dismantle and transport. In countries such as Spain, where wrought-iron work is an important part of the decorative arts, it became a large bed for resting, adorned with sumptuous fabrics.
