Gaston Veuvenot Leroux, Snake Charmer 2nd half 20th century, signed G. Leroux on the plinth, dark patinated bronze, young man, dressed in a loincloth and playing a flute, on a naturalistic plinth with architectural fragment, cactus and writhing snake, mounted on an ornamentally decorated bronze base, in good condition for age, h 72 cm. Artist information: French sculptor and medallist (1845 Paris - 1942 Bordeaux), 1874-1877 attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he studied sculpture under director Carl Kundmann, he was probably also taught by Gustave Deloye, from 1881 at the sculpture department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris under François Jouffroy, in 1893 he was appointed professor of sculpture at the Academy in Bordeaux, where he also worked as the city's official sculptor and carried out numerous public commissions.
