"Samy, the street urchin, was familiar with Les Halles before it was destroyed, when it was still home to the brutal fauna of vendors, thieves and prostitutes. Gradually, slowly, he developed a refined, erudite painting sensibility. The dabbler, unaware of the teaching of his practice, would become one of the greatest painters of his time."
