Pierre-Francois Basan, attr., The Gardener A young lady looking at the viewer while drawing water from a fountain and surrounded by various vegetables, copper engraving, 2nd half 18th century, traces of former worm damage and somewhat stained, behind glass in historical gold stucco frame, folded dimensions approx. 35.5 x 27 cm. Artist info: French engraver and publisher. Engraver and publisher (1723 Paris - 1797 Paris), pupil of his cousin (or uncle) Etienne Fessard, later with Jean Daullé, further trained by Pierre Jean Mariette, 1750-54 collaboration on the gallery work "Gal. du Comte de Bruhl (Galerie des Grafen Brühl)" and "Gal. royale de Dresde (The Royal Gallery of Dresden)", from 1754 also active as a publisher, titled by the Duke of Choiseul as "le maréchal de saxe de la curiosite (the Saxon marshal of curiosity)", published numerous series of engravings, mostly with the significant co-operation of his collaborators after Dutch and Flemish masters, active in Paris, source: Thieme-Becker and AKL.

Scandinavia - HAZELIUS (Arthur). Souvenirs du Musée du Nord: reproductions, with descriptive text, of objects kept at the museum, published with the collaboration of various artists and authors. Sl, [c. 1895]. In-4 oblong, green chagrin, title stamped in gold on first cover (period binding). Album alone, complete with 42 chromolithographed plates representing a collection of ethnographic and craft objects from the Nordic Museum in Stockholm. The plates are captioned and show costumes, sledges, jugs, sculptures, furniture, embroidery, a rural living room, etc. A good copy. Slight spotting, wear to binding.

Fort in-8, [4] f., 870 p., [1] f., red half-chagrin with corners, smooth spine, gilt author's name at head corner, gilt title throughout, cover and spine (faded) preserved, untrimmed, gilt head (upper spine partly split). First edition in French. Translation from English by Auguste Morel assisted by Stuart Gilbert, entirely revised by Valery Larbaud with the author's collaboration. Limited edition of 1,200 numbered copies: one of 200 copies hors commerce, and among these one of 170 on alfa vergé (no. 90).
