Himalayan art Embossed and gilded copper spice holder Nepal or Kashmir, early 20th century . . 34x27 cm. Made of embossed, chiseled, and pierced metal, consisting of numerous drop-shaped compartments with hinged lids, probably designed to hold spices. The exterior decorated with intertwined plant shoots and small plaques containing syncretic deities, such as the kneeling winged figure resembling Garuda. Caryatids similar toYakshni cover the central stem, and the top is decorated with flamboyant element containing a depiction of the Medicine Buddha within tricuspid prabha.
