Indian art Stucco head of a man. Gandhara circa.4th century CE . . Cm 30x20. The face is realistically modeled with open eyes aquiline nose , beard and mustache arranged around full lips. The earlobes are elongated and effectively modeled. He wears a simple headdress from which curls emerge, elegantly framing his forehead. The anatomical details are particularly accurate; the beautiful movement of the beard its rendering so natural , the wrinkles of the face highlight the Hellenistic influence typical of Gandhara art.This fusion of cultures is particularly evident in this beautiful sculpture so balanced in its peaceful harmony.Provenance: Italian private collection.Purchased from Christie's Amsterdam live auction 2687 Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art 18/Apr/05 lot no. 32. Buyer's premium
The hammer price of an item is increased by 29% to the buyer, to include buyer's premium and VAT. Capitoliumart offers also an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale. Please note that any lots purchased via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT at the rate imposed on the hammer price.

Antique items declared of significant interest under art. 6 of Legislative Decree 29/10/99 no.490 are indicated as such in the catalogue or announced during the sale. On such items, the Italian State may exercise the right of first refusal within 60 days of the sale notice; the sale, therefore, will only take place after the deadline has passed. In the event that the right of first refusal being exercised, the bidder will be entitled to reimbursement of any amounts already paid.
Security deposit
For new customers the auction house may require the payment of a security deposit in order to participate to the sales. This deposit must be paid in the forms of payment allowed by the general terms and conditions, in the cases and in the amounts determined by the Auction House.
