Indian art Stucco head of a man. Gandhara circa.4th century CE . . Cm 30x20. The face is realistically modeled with open eyes aquiline nose , beard and mustache arranged around full lips. The earlobes are elongated and effectively modeled. He wears a simple headdress from which curls emerge, elegantly framing his forehead. The anatomical details are particularly accurate; the beautiful movement of the beard its rendering so natural , the wrinkles of the face highlight the Hellenistic influence typical of Gandhara art.This fusion of cultures is particularly evident in this beautiful sculpture so balanced in its peaceful harmony.Provenance: Italian private collection.Purchased from Christie's Amsterdam live auction 2687 Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art 18/Apr/05 lot no. 32.
