Southeast Asian art Sandstone figure depicting Uma. Khmer Angkor Wat style, probable 12th century. . . Cm 71x20.50. The standing figure of Uma is modeled wearing a striated sampot supported by a belt that encircles her hips. A large textile panel is draped over the belt that descends softly and ends slightly flared at the bottom in the characteristic shape known as a "fishtail".The face is pervaded by a celestial calm, the lips hint at a slight smile the arched eyebrows the wide nose ,the earlobes are elongated. She wears a tiara carved with floral motifs in front of a cone-shaped chignon. The sculpture is particularly refined and accurate especially in the rendering of the robes and sophisticated hairstyle.Provenance: Italian private collection.
