Southeast Asian art Large sandstone statue of Lokhesvara.Khmer art, Bayon style. Cambodia, 13th century. . . Cm 76x48. The mighty sculpture in creamy-pink stoneware (a particularly hard type of sandstone) depicts a rare Lokeshvara with ten arms in a standing position. His face is serene with almond-shaped eyes. The half-closed eyes looking down, the full lips attuned to a vague sweet and distant smile , the chin and slightly squared jaws convey the inner energy combined with the serenity that only the face of an enlightened one can express.The whole figure is framed by the extraordinary halo formed by the eight hind arms rising from the rock as if by magic. The two front arms reach out symmetrically holding two lotus buds; it is a strong and balanced work. The fact, then, that the figure has not been completed and that the forms of the body appear bound to the stone enhances the intensity and mystery with which this figure is imbued.Provenance: Italian private collection. Viewing of the lots before auction
All lots will be on display prior to auction, in the case of traditional auctions, or can be viewed by appointment for online auctions, in order to examine the quality and condition of items; no complaints will be accepted after the hammer, even if there are errors in the catalogue
Buyer's premium
The hammer price of an item is increased by 29% to the buyer, to include buyer's premium and VAT. Capitoliumart offers also an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale. Please note that any lots purchased via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT at the rate imposed on the hammer price.

Antique items declared of significant interest under art. 6 of Legislative Decree 29/10/99 no.490 are indicated as such in the catalogue or announced during the sale. On such items, the Italian State may exercise the right of first refusal within 60 days of the sale notice; the sale, therefore, will only take place after the deadline has passed. In the event that the right of first refusal being exercised, the bidder will be entitled to reimbursement of any amounts already paid.
Security deposit
For new customers the auction house may require the payment of a security deposit in order to participate to the sales. This deposit must be paid in the forms of payment allowed by the general terms and conditions, in the cases and in the amounts determined by the Auction House.

Payments for items purchased must be made no later than 5 working days from the date of the auction. Deferred payments
