Wood with pigmentation in black, red and white. H. 83.5 cm. - Signs of age and use. - From a southern German private collection.

Portrait, 4 color frontispieces, 92 fig. in 58 plates, color fold-out map. Excellent account of Barth's travels in Africa from 1850 to 1854. He brought back accurate data on Central Africa. Many of his observations are devoted to Timbuktu, following in the footsteps of René Caillié, whose presence he had confirmed 25 years earlier.
