Schmidt, Georg - Nuremberg 1847 Nuremberg - 1922 ibid., painter, woodcarver, trained as draughtsman and sculptor at the Nuremberg School of Arts and Crafts under August von Kreling, studied painting in Dresden and Munich under Prof. Romberg. Worked on the Niederwald monument in 1872 under Prof. Schilling, perhaps identical with Georg Schmidt, who, according to Dammer, modeled groups of animals for arts and crafts purposes around 1888, worked in various studios, finally worked as a watercolor painter, exhibited several Nuremberg views in 1911, 1912 and 1918, lived in very modest circumstances. 1906/12 he lived at Karlstraße 14, 1913 Am Treibberg 4/II, 1916 Spitzenberg 5, 1917 Hintere Insel Schütt 25, 1919/22 Lange Gasse 12. Member of the Nuremberg Art Cooperative, "Blick auf Haidturm", watercolor/paper, right un. sign. and dat. 1909, left un. dat. a. bet., slightly browned, in passepartout ca. 24x16cm, RhG dam. ca. 39x27cm, also "Burgansicht", watercolor/paper/graphite, right un. monogr.
