Mühlbeck studied at the Königliche Akademie der Künste in Munich, he was a pupil of Otto Seitz, after a period in prison in Nuremberg he went to Zurich in 1903, but returned to Munich in 1905 where he worked until his death. Mühlbeck was a member of the Reich Association of Visual Artists in Germany and the Munich Artists' Exhibition Association
