Mallentjer, Eduard - 1885 - 1928, Martinus Henricus Eduardus Edouard Mallentjer, Belgian painter, "Opulent still life with fruit and utensils", oil/painting card, still life with apples and various kitchen utensils, bottles and jars, signed upper left, approx. 51.5x74cm, frame bumped approx. 65.5x88cm. His earliest known and already solid work in oil paint from 1906 shows his talent as a portraitist, but it was not until 1919 that his career could really begin; it was his marriage to Alice Truyens that gave him the necessary freedom, followed by a rapid succession of solo exhibitions from 1920 onwards: Antwerp, Liège, Antwerp, Brussels, the press of those years unanimously praised his carefully composed still lifes, impressive portraits and genre scenes.
