A ‘CHILONG’ SOAPSTONE SEAL AND AN AGATE PENDANT, c. 1920s A ‘CHILONG’ SOAPSTONE SEAL AND AN AGATE PENDANT, c. 1920s China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). Comprising a rectangular soapstone seal, the top carved with a sinuous chilong and scrollwork, one side incised ‘Wan Bai Shang Ren’, the seal face engraved as well. The soapstone with an appealing color play of maroon, orange, and creamy hues. The second an agate pendant carved in openwork with curled lotus leaves and reeds, with a finely executed frog and crab on top, cleverly utilizing the black shadings of the gray translucent stone. Condition: Good condition with some wear and few tiny nicks. Provenance: French private collection. Weight: 212 g Dimensions: Length 6 cm (the seal), 5.8 cm (the pendant)

A GROUP OF SOAPSTONE AND METAL SEALS, QING DYNASTY AND LATER A GROUP OF SOAPSTONE AND METAL SEALS, QING DYNASTY AND LATER China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) and later. Comprising five soapstone seals, one surmounted by two chilong, one carved in the form of a rock with prunus, one carved in low relief with a rock, one of elongated rectangular form and inscribed to one side, and the last of square section, incised to two sides in seal script. Further comprising two metal seals, one of cylindrical form and decorated with a floral pattern, fitted around a glass insert, and the other a square seal surmounted by a Buddhist lion. Provenance: Austrian private collection. Condition: Good condition with old wear, nicks, scratches, few small chips, some stones with natural fissures. Weight: 272.6 g (total) Dimensions: Length 2.3 – 7.5 cm
