Description

CRISTÓBAL MARRERO SILVA (Las Palmas, 1934). "Bust of a young man. Carved stone. Signed on the left side. Presents wear. Measurements: 43 x 42 x 15 cm. Cristóbal Marrero is an indigenous sculptor. He was a disciple of the School of Art Luján Pérez where he chose sculpture because his teacher Santiago Santana always told him that "there were many painters and very few sculptors". His figurative indigenist line, both in painting and sculpture, overflows with warmth and opens up to the characteristic features of the Canarian identity humanist proportionality explored and experimented by Felo Monzón, Jorge Oramas, Plácido Fleitas or Jesús Arencibia.
