LUIS MANERO MIGUEL (Burgos, 1876-1937). "Rural view", 1912. Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated in the lower left corner. Measurements: 12 x 19 cm; 31 x 39 cm (frame). Painter of self-taught character. He cultivated several genres within the figurative realism and there are also certain works that could be catalogued as works of social realism. He studied in Madrid, where he got a scholarship to study in Rome, which he got as a gift for the oil portrait of King Alfonso XIII. He stayed in Rome until 1906. As a payment to the provincial government, he painted "Los enemigos del alma", a triptych of more than five meters, which he never finished. When he returned to Burgos, in 1909 he obtained a teaching post in the drawing academy at the school for the deaf, dumb and blind. At the same time he continued with his academy, which he moved to the Plaza de Alonso Martínez. In 1910, on January 7, he got his place in the Drawing Academy of the Consulado del Mar. In 1931 he continued as professor secretary of the provincial drawing academy. His classes were pen drawing, line drawing, clay modeling and plaster casting, and figure drawing. On July 9, 1936 he was appointed director of the Academy of Drawing of the Consulate of the Sea, although he held this position for a short time, as he died in 1937.
