RAYMOND DE MEESTER (Belgium, 1904-1995). "Rabbits". Hand-painted plaster. Signed on the right side of the base. It presents wear and very slight lack of polychrome. Measurements: 17 x 24 x 16 cm. Raymond de Meester was a Belgian sculptor specialized in the animalistic theme. He represented all kinds of animals in a variety of sculptural techniques. Many of them are powerful and elegant. His biographers relate that he visited the Antwerp Zoo daily for inspiration. He received numerous awards, and participated in the International Exhibitions in Antwerp (1930) and Brussels (1935). He received official commissions. His works are kept in museums in Brussels, Antwerp, Paris, Buenos Aires and Riga.
