Otto Quante, "Heimkehr vom Fest" Husband and wife dressed in traditional costume, strolling along a country lane in a rural landscape with a cheerful expression, the physiognomy of the sitters and the directness with which the artist gives the viewer an insight into their way of life are reminiscent of Heinrich Zille, oil study on chipboard, 1st quarter 20th century, partly executed with glazed colour application with partial exposure of the painting ground, signed "Otto Quante" lower left, inscribed and titled in ink on adhesive label on the reverse, small scratches in the paint layer and in need of cleaning, modern frame, rebate dimensions approx. 23 x 25 cm. Artist information: also Otto Quandt, German med. Otto Quandt, German physician, painter and etcher (1875 Minden/Westphalia to 1947 Naumburg/Saale), initially studied medicine and practised as an ophthalmologist, gave up his practice in 1907, subsequently a pupil of Fritz Mackensen in Worpswede, studied under Walter Conz at the Karlsruhe academy as well as a pupil at the painting school of Heinrich Knirr and Ludwig Schmid-Reutte in Munich, member and deputy chairman as well as 1st district secretary of the Reich Association of Visual Artists of Germany, active in Munich, source: Thieme-Becker, Dressler and Internet.
