Icon, Central Russia, 17th century, St. John in silence, three-quarter figure, the saint puts the index finger of his right hand to hislips, the left hand lies on the book of the Gospels, on which the beginning of the Gospel according to John is written in Church Slavonic: 'In the beginning was the word...#',at the top right an angel whispers the words of the Gospel to the saint. The Church Slavonic title is 'St. John of Theology', small paint chips, small retouches, approx. 31.9 x 26.2 cm, collector's item, with expertise from the Icon Museum Schloss Autenried Günzburg, the icon was acquired in 1984 for 13,500 DM in the Gernsbach Icon Gallery
