Description

JUAN ANTONIO VALCARCEL (Catalonia, 20th century). Untitled. Trencadís. Ceramic tiles. Signed on the back. The frame has scratches. Measurements: 30 x 39 cm; 42 x 52 cm (frame). The trencadís is a procedure based on the use of ceramic fragments joined with mortar, with the particularity that they are irregular pieces. Returning to the Mediterranean tradition of using tiles in masonry, Antoni Gaudí created this technique from the use of waste material from the Pujol i Bausis artistic ceramics factory. He had the invaluable collaboration of Josep Maria Jujol, who created the mosaics and gave them their characteristic personality.
