ACHILLE GASTON MARCHAL (France, 1874 - early 20th century). "House by the sea", 1923. Oil on cardboard. Signed in the lower right corner. The frame has some flaws. Measurements: 25 x 32 cm; 38 x 46 cm (frame). Achille Gaston Marchal was a student of the School of Fine Arts. He exhibited at the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux. Artist who has painted especially the landscapes of Seine-et-Marne as evidenced by the collections of the Departmental Museum of Sceaux.

Enriched with linocuts by G-L Marchal, dated Castres 1997. This is a single linocut depicting a bridge repeated on all or most of the work's white pages. Marchal was Zadkine's executor. A copy entirely uncropped for the illustration, with only the first cover preserved. An astonishing copy.

He even specifies at the end of the volume: "increased by as many drawings of twine as there are pages with blank margins" and "36 hours of work, 70m of twine drawn" (including on the cloth binding). Dated Castres 1996. Publisher's boards. Stunning copy.

[Original drawings, Gaston-Louis Marchal] Set of 5 volumes: Serge Gorin - la chair de l'aube (1987); abbé Mano - le pessimisme contemporain (1901); Mauriac - la rencontre avec Barrès (1945); Roger Hautier - théâtre de Protée; Hervé Rougier - le chant intérieur de la maison (1972). All five volumes are lavishly illustrated with original margin or interleaved drawings by Marchal, Zadkine's executor. The Mauriac volume even includes two photos taken in Castres. Three volumes have been unclipped to include the drawings. Stunning copies.
