In it, Matisse praises an artist he admires and believes in: "I am very pleased to learn that you are willing to draw the attention of a select public to the works of Annelis Nelck and her husband Vincent de Crozals. Both are worthy of interest". Annelies Nelck (1925-2014) was a painter and printmaker. She became Henri Matisse's assistant, serving as a model for some of his works, such as Lectrice à la table jaune, painted in 1944. Jean Vincent Vincent de Crozals (1922-2009) was a French sculptor and painter. In 1949, Henri Matisse asked Jean Vincent de Crozals to serve as a model for the paintings of Christ in the Chapelle du Rosaire in Vence. Suzanne Cahen-Salvador (1913-2013), née Reinach, a former deportee and member of the French Resistance, established herself as a gallery owner after the war.
