AUTOGRAPHES. - COCTEAU (Jean). 4 autograph letters signed 3 in-12, one in-8, folds. In late summer 1954, Cocteau was ill and staying at his friend Francine Weisweiller's villa Santo Sospir in Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat. - August 3, 1954: "I'd like to see a ghost of beach and sun up close, but medicine has decided otherwise". - Sept. 7, 1954, "Sansto Sospir", to his "dear Georges Breysse": Cocteau must rest, but invites him to Nice in two weeks' time... "A ghost must always find a chateau". - Sept. 10, 1954: "Chair ami, this spelling is to give substance to the ghost. Your chatelaine seems impossible...". On verso, pencil draft of recipient's reply. - Oct. 12, 1954: "Dear friend, your cousin is a dangerous fool - for I have never been a maigre (?) with Jean Marais, and she is doubtless unaware of the respect with which my friendship behaves."
