Fine Louis XV chest of drawers France, mid 18th century, Kingwood veneered on oak, cambered body on all sides, front with four drawers, decorated with magnificent gilded bronze fittings, some of which are punched with a crowned C on the handles, the crosspieces fluted and inlaid with brass, original recessed brass locks, solid, light grey veined marble top, restored ready for use, dimensions 90 x 126 x 61 cm. Info: Bronzes with a crowned C bear witness to a metal tax that was in force between 1745 and 1749. Their presence makes it possible to precisely date the manufacture of a piece of furniture. The crowned C has also become a mark of quality for collectors; it seems to have been engraved only on the finest bronzes. Source: Revue l'objet d'art n°320, page 46/54, January 1998.

Complete collection of this iconic art magazine devoted to Japan, founded by art dealer Siegfried Bing (1838-1905), comprising 36 issues published between 1888 and 1891. Contributors included Philippe Burty, A. Lequeux, Gustave Geffroy, Marcus B. Huish, Roger Marx, Edmond de Goncourt, L. Gonse, etc. Each issue is lavishly illustrated with figures in the text and plates showing bronzes, pottery, silks, etc., as well as reproductions of prints by Hokuzaï, Kiyonaga, Korin, Outamaro, Toyokouni, etc.
