Franz von Stuck, Portrait of Mary Portrait of Franz von Stuck's daughter, born in 1896, the artist had executed this motif several times after photographs from around 1905 and there is also a copy in the Villa Stuck collection (inventory number G91 1-5), here with an almost identical frame, pastel chalks and gouache in green on thick cardboard, around 1910, whereby it is not possible to date it precisely due to the repetition of the motif, signed "Franz Stuck" in the right-hand area, label on the reverse "Galerie am Lenbachplatz/F. H. Zinckgraf-München 2" and number "20787" as well as label "8007", pastel minimally smudged (not fixed), cardboard slightly yellowed due to material, behind glass in original frame (with minor losses), folded dimensions approx. 55.5 x 48 cm, provenance: manufacturer's household in western Saxony, until now in family ownership through succession, we would like to thank Mrs Margot Brandlhuber, head of the Villa Stuck Collections in Munich, for the valuable information and confirmation of the authenticity of the work via e-mail. Artist info: important German painter, graphic artist, sculptor. Painter, graphic artist, sculptor and architect (1863 Tettenweis - 1928 Tetschen), studied 1882-84 at the Munich School of Arts and Crafts and from 1885 at the Munich Academy under Wilhelm von Lindenschmit, influenced by Diez, Böcklin and Lenbach, co-founder and president of the Munich Secession in 1892, from 1895 professor and successor to Lindenschmit at the Munich Academy, alongside Kaulbach and Lenbach was one of Munich's painter princes, ennobled in 1906, honorary member of numerous academies, active in Munich, appointed Privy Councillor in 1924 and Dr. h.c., source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Matrikel der Akademie München and Internet.
