Verrerie de Meisenthal Commemorative chalice in acid-etched and enameled multi-layered glass. The pedestal features the dates August 15, 1846 and November 21, 1896 engraved in relief, as well as several lyres of different sizes. The central upright is decorated with lightly gilded foliage, stylized flowers and a Maltese cross. On the body of the chalice, with a green hammered background, burgundy interwoven filaments. On the flat surface, motifs of anemones entirely reworked and enameled in gold, and on the other side, amidst a stylized Art Nouveau décor, a frame with a coat of arms representing a cogwheel and St. Cécile Mulhouse. Under the gold pedestal are inscribed Émile Wanner and François Drechsler and the date May 1900. A small chip with a slight lack of enamel and a tiny chip around the edge of the pedestal. H. 30 cm D. 15 cm History: This exceptional piece probably commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Mulhouse music school. The two signatures on the underside of the chalice are those of Émile Wanner (1861-1916), future director of the factory from 1903, and François Drechsler, then director of the Mulhouse School of Music. Émile Wanner's daughter's communion chalice, dated 1903, can be seen at the Musée du verre et du cristal de Meisenthal. TR
