Small in-12, havana morocco, spine ribbed and decorated with mosaic boxes in red and black morocco, gilt title, framed in black morocco with gilt lace, gilt edges, dominoed endpapers with floral decoration on gold background (period binding). Moralist writer, president of the Parlement d'Aix and bishop of Lisieux, Du Vair played a mediating role during the troubles of the League, and contributed in part to securing the French throne for Henri IV. Handwritten bookplate from the Annonciation monastery in Nancy. Binding vellum creased and yellowed.
